Birds Eye Rhyolite is a volcanic stone formed from ancient lava flows that slowly cooled and created complex mineral patterns over time. Those circular “eyes” are the result of different mineral concentrations settling and crystallizing as the lava cooled, giving each piece a landscape-like feel that’s completely unique.
 
A cool fact about Birds Eye Rhyolite is that the “eyes” aren’t actually fossils or bubbles—they’re usually formed from spherulites, which are tiny radial crystal clusters that grow outward from a central point as the lava cools and partially crystallizes.
 
What makes it extra interesting is that these spherulites often form in very specific cooling conditions—so within a single rhyolite flow, you can get zones that are plain, banded, or heavily “eyed,” depending on how fast or unevenly the lava cooled in different spots. That’s why no two Birds Eye pieces ever really match, even from the same location.
