I just finished wrapping this vibrant Mexican Jelly Opal in gallery-style copper and copper wire, and it’s one of those pieces that just seems to glow from within. The stone has that signature “jelly” look.
This opal comes from Mexico, a region famous for its volcanic-hosted opals formed in ancient rhyolite lava flows. Over time, silica-rich solutions filled cavities in the rock and slowly solidified into opal, creating these glowing, almost liquid-looking gemstones that collectors love for their warmth and depth.
I wrapped this piece using a mix of gallery copper work and detailed copper wire weaving to frame the stone like a little window, while still letting that natural glow take center stage.
